I couldn't sign in to iMessage with my apple id

Why can't I sign into Messages on Mac with my Apple ID? I have tried using both my Apple ID and iCloud but it still post an error message.

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi,

It does not have to be your iCloud ID.

It can be any Apple ID that has had any email verified.

This issue can arise if the computer has had a Logic board replaced and the Serial number not put back on it.

Use the Apple Menu top left > About this Mac

Click twice on the line that currently tell you the OS version.

Is the Serial Number present ?

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"
