Welcome to to the Apple Support Communities

AirPlay Mirroring isn't compatible with your MacBook, so you won't be able to use it even if you upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Instead, you have to use a third-party application to stream the MacBook into your Apple TV, as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

As above but if you just want ordinary air play and not mirror then you can do that from iTunes without an app.
