Multiple accounts and the iCloud

My husband and I each have separate iTunes acocunts on our devices, and a joint account on a home desktop. I want to subscribe to the iCloud to condense our music and files. Is there a simple way to explain how we can each subscribe to the cloud but not lose our other iTunes music?

I have not actually subscribed yet, I want to know what and how to combine accounts first... Thanks!

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match, iCloud doesn't sync your music. And even if you did subscribe to iTunes Match, it only uploads music from a single iTunes library.

If you want to consolidate your music, you'll need to authorize each of your computers for the Apple IDs used to purchase all the music (in Store>Authorize this Computer), then use Home Sharing to drag and drop music from each other's iTunes libraries into your own. Once there, you can sync it to your respective devices.

If you have iTunes Match, you should be able to add your other computer to iTunes Match (Store>Turn on iTunes Match, see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913), and your consolidated library would be available through iCloud (up to 25,000 songs) on any of your devices.

When add another computer to your iTunes Match account, it will scan the library in the new computer and match/upload any songs not aready in your Match library from the other computer.
