Why is Camera Roll still inaccessible from a supervised iOS device?

Not only can you not retrieve photos or video from any computer that you connect a supervised device to, you cannot get retrieve on the supervising computer. I read on an earlier thread that this used to be possible. I work in education and this is very frustrating. Sometimes the students or staff film long videos which makes using Dropbox or Google Drive to upload them (only to download them to a computer later) nearly impossible. Why is this locked out? Is there a fix?

If that was once the case (regarding the supervising computer being able to retrieve the photos and/or videos) it is no longer true. I am also aware of VPP redemption code caveats. This is why we supervise the devices in an educational environment. We are using the second model of Apple's Apple Configurator setup "Deploying Unassigned Devices" using the "layered" ownership/management approach. Both suggested Apple practices (demonstrated by Apple Pro Services):

-School District/Organization prepares and supervises devices.

-School District/Organization purchases selected apps and apply's them to supervised devices.

-School District/Organization hands out devices (not to be confused with assigning)

-Users can use their own Apple ID on the device to purchase and/or download their own apps.

-Users can udate the iOD without authentication.

-Users cannot update School District/Organizatin purchased apps (because they were not purchased using their Apple ID)

My question is to Apple: Why is Camera Roll locked out for supervised devices? How can this be a "feature?"

I can't really help I gave up on supervising devices because of the issues with getting photos and video off the devices

To much of a headache

And I haven't tried supervising with the latest apple Configurator

Perhaps the change is to do with new VPP requirements having to supervise devices, as odd as it seems

iOS 6 users can update any app without authentication on unsupervised devices

Not sure if that apples to supervised devices

I agree not being able to access camera roll etc is a huge problem

And must be either some sort of iOS limitation or apple wanting to simplify things

And would be much better if it was a selectable option

This isn't the place to contact apple. It's user to user. Here is the place:

I have not tried these apps, but they make great claims. Could be locked out in supervisory mode.
