AirPlay via Ethernet or WiFi

If my Apple TV 2 is connected via Ethernet, will AirPlay still function from my iDevices? I cannot seem to use airplay from my ipad to the Apple TV when the Apple TV is connected via Ethernet, but works just fine when over wifi.
