I am trying to install snow leopard but it gets stuck on the background screen

I put the CD in and it reads it fine, but when I restart to start installation it just stops on the background screen, never giving an option to install languages or anything. What is wrong? is there something I can do?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

to clarify its not stuck on a blue bacgkround screen or grey apple screen, its stuck on the spaceish default background screen
