iPad orientation is not rotating

My iPad orientation is not locked, yet I can't rotate it? Does anyone have any suggestions?

If there isn't a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Is there a lock symbol then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Hi King_Penguin. Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, the orientation is not locked -- as indicated by both the side swith and taskbar icon. On multiple occasions over the past two days, I have shut down my iPad and turned it back on again. Moreover, I have reset my iPad several times over the past two days. After reading some information in previous posts on this forum, I learned that I may be able to fix this issue if I restore my iPad by connecting it to my desktop and opening iTunes. I'm going to give this a try tomorrow -- I'll let you know how it goes 🙂 Thanks once again; I greatly appreciate your helpfulness.
