I keep getting the message "mail can't connect to iCloud. I had not trouble until a few weeks ago. Anyone know anything about this?
If you mean "Mail" (as in Apple's Mail app), you're not alone. There seems to be a problem wherein Apple's IMAP server is not accepting connections from mail clients. I can't connect via SeaMonkey's Mail & Newsgroups app, or via Thunderbird either. For me, the problem started on Friday, March 1.
So far, I've been able to get my mail via webmail...that is, using a browser to connect to iCloud.com. Also, the SMTP (outgoing) mail server is apparently not affected by this problem. I have no problem sending mail from any of my mail applications. However, I can't write the sent messages to my "Sent" folder because that folder is hosted on Apple's IMAP server, which is the one that's not accepting connections. In other words, I can send messages, but I can't retain a copy of them unless I send them via webmail.
So, webmail is your only alternative if you want to use your iCloud mail. The only other alternative is to use a mail account that's not hosted on Apple's IMAP server...for example, a mail account that's hosted by your ISP (Internet service provider). Either of those options is a temporary workaround until Apple fixes the problem.

Mar 2, 2013 2:50 AM in response to claire276by Colin Sutton,Same here. I can read icloud mail via my iphone, but the mac 'can't connect to iCloud'.
Also, over the last few days, draft emails are staying in the draft folder after I send them. Once the same email appeared twice in my draft folder on the mac after I sent it.

Mar 2, 2013 3:19 PM in response to claire276by baconwrapped,Same for me.... can get on my phone, and seems to be okay on my Mac Air, but not my iMac. I can get mail on the iCloud web page, but not via the Mail program. Guess I'm glad to know that it's not just me!

Mar 2, 2013 4:20 PM in response to Colin Suttonby Colin Sutton,My problem with sent mail staying in the draft folder was my fault: I had changed the outgoing server for ICloud mail to my ISP's server. On changing it back, that problem went away.
Another discussion suggested disabling and reanabling iCloud in system preferences. That seems to have solved the connection problem too.

Mar 3, 2013 12:53 PM in response to claire276by jmwiit,I am having the same problem. I get mail on the iPhone, but Mail on my Mac "Can't Connect to account." This is severe for me, as I have mail forwarded from several other POP accounts to my iCloud account so that I can get it on my iPhone as well as my Mac. Now I can't get it on my Mac (where all the files I might attach are located).
I tried disabling the account in Preferences on my Mac, and then re-enabling it (as suggested abouve). But that did not seem to work.

Mar 3, 2013 1:29 PM in response to Colin Suttonby MelJP,Can you advise how to disable and renable? I have gone into System Preferences and can't seem to find how to do it....did you mean deleting iCloud account from Mail?

Mar 3, 2013 8:20 PM in response to MelJPby jmwiit,From Mail menu, select Preferemces.
In Preferences, select Accounts.
Under Accounts, there will be a list of your accounts, if you have more than one. Select your iCloud account.
Near the top of the pane that appears, there will be a check box labeled "Enable this account." Uncheck this box. That should disable the account. Then close the Preferences window, and wait a few moments.
Then, re- open Preferences and re-check the Enable this account box. Close the Preferences window.
This worked for some people. It didn't work for me.

Mar 3, 2013 8:23 PM in response to claire276by jmwiit,Apple support also suggested using port 993. You have to edit your server settings, under the advanced tab. This didn't work for me, either.

Mar 3, 2013 8:55 PM in response to claire276by jmwiit,I tried one more thing. I went to Preferences, and deleted the iCloud account (carefully having taken notes about what was in there). I then closed Preferences.
I re-opened Preferences, and created a "new" account with all the old information. That seems to have the account working again-- at least for now.

Mar 4, 2013 9:11 AM in response to baconwrappedby baconwrapped,Oh, and I'm noticing that my iTunes isn't connecting to iCloud either. Presumably that's related to the same issue as mail not connecting?

Mar 4, 2013 9:52 AM in response to claire276by baconwrapped,Found this on another discussion about the same problem.... and it WORKED!
>>
What finally worked was to leave the @mac.com (or @me.com) off of my user name for the imap.mail.me.com settings.
