My iPhone V will not connect to a Microsoft Exchange server. It says that the User Name or Password are incorrect even though they're not and I can log on directly to Exchange with the same parameters using the web browser.

I bought the phone when it came out last October. The connection did not work at first, then started without warning in December. It worked perfectly for 2 months then stopped again when IOS 6.1.2 was Installed.

Help please!

Delete the account from the phone and re-add it. If that doesn't work, contact your IT department.

I've already tried deleting and re-creating the account but that did not solve the problem.

Have also been to the IT Dept. They only set up the account on Exchange and have nothing else to do with it (i.e. everything else is handled by Microsoft) and they assure me that they have not done anything that would block my access (anyway it works if you connect through the web browser but not with the mail app.)

The problem seems specific to the iPhone V, colleagues with iPhone 3 and 4 do not have this.

Maybe I just have a faulty phone? Any other ideas?

The web browser does not use the Exchange ActiveSync protocol. The phone does. If your company is using an old version of Exchange server, that could explain the problem entirely. Microsoft has nothing to do with the connectivity (except for having written Exchange, of course) unless they are hosting your email.

I have forwarded these questions about the version of Exchange server that is being used and whether Microsoft host the mai themselves to the IT Dept but I will not get a reply from them until tomorrow.

In the meantime I have also tried:

    • Deleting and re-creating the account AGAIN!
    • And re-setting the phone (recommended as a solution to a similar problem with an iPad in another forum.

    But please remember that:

    • The phone would not connect for 2 months after I bought it
    • Then started working unexpectedly in December
    • Then stopped working again when IOS 6.1.2. was installed

Also why am I the only person affected by this when colleagues with iPhone 3s and 4s who use the same mail system are not (I am still trying to find one with an iPhone V to see if their's works).

Like I said I think that there must be a fault, either with my own phone or with iPhone Vs in general.

It's working now but solved only by trial and error and I'm still not sure why.

After doing all the things described above I:

    1. Changed the capitalisation of my user name (I.E. John.Doe @ instead of john.doe@) and
    2. Ath the suggestion of our I.T. Dept, changed the name of the server (which the phone was supposed to have picked up automatically but did not).

Somehow it then worked but as I said I don't know why or for how long this will last since it worked o.k. before without having to do either of these things.

P.S. I have had to waste a considerable amount of time on this, not to mention theinvconvenience of not being able to get my emails for 2 and a half out of the 4 months that I have had the phone and am VERY disappointed with this product!

Boo hoo.  Be disappointed with the way the Exchange server is setup not the phone.

    Arrogant, patronising and totally unhelpful!

Also 100% correct. The problem is not the phone. It's the Exchange server. Blame your IT department.

A bit funny situation. You are coming to tech support forum to find out why your "shortwave radio" does not connect to particular station. You are told by techies, that as long as radio has correct info in order to connect and station bradcasts it will connect. You do not belive it, then change login information per advise of people you were referred to by the same techies and still do not belive it?
