my download app has disappeared from my dock and I cann't find it to download the updated Adobe Flash player! Please can someone help me as it is Saturday and I cannot call Apple Care?

You are mistaken about a few things here.
In the dock you had a shortcut to your downloads folder, you can drag the folder back to the dock whenever you want.
To update Flash go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it, the install will start, the file will download to the downloads folder and can be started from there.
There wasn't an app, but there was a folder. It is in your Home folder, Downloads.
You can also view the Downloads from in Safari by clicking on the Downloads button:
From the sheet that drops down, click on the spyglass to reveal the download in the Finder.
Double-click on the Disk Image file and it will mount the installer disk. Open that in the finder and doubl-click the Flash Player installer.
If you would like the Downloads folder back on the Dock, drag the folder from your Home folder into the Dock. The other folders will move out of the way as you hover over the empty space between them. As it is a Folder, it needs to be on the right side of the Dock
Another possibility: Look in System Preferences, the "Other" category. If you have had Flash Player in the past, a Preference Pane may be there which will facilitate updates.

I don't know when it changed, but I never liked it auto-installing on me.
I only have it loaded for the odd occasion that I need it.
I have ClickToPlugin blocking all Flash and choosing HTML5 if available.
maybe the way I worded my question was misleading ... I cannot find my downloads folder! I have done a search and cannot locate it. I will try looking somewhere other than apps. thanks so much.

Your Home folder is the one with your Name in /Users. You can get there by selecting Home from the Go menu in Finder.
You can select Downloads from the Go menu in Finder. If it doesn't open, then you may have somehow deleted it (which is difficult).

my original download app that came with computer has vanished from dock and everywhere I look! I need to download the Adobe Flash player and can't! please someone help me.
