Could not transfer my library without incurring higher fees per song?

Could not transfer all my music only a small number & the bulk itunes wanted additional fees per song...which seemed illegal paying twice for purchases I already paid for...getting money for music twice seemed a bit much.

IBM Laptop-OTHER, Windows 7, Some few songs transfered

I saved my library on an external drive (which I had done before with no issues) & only a few songs downloaded on the newer computer...with the message from itunes that additional fees per song had to be paid before entire library would download.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Apple or iTunes. Nowhere in iTunes does this ever appear.

Please post the exact message and post a screenshot.

Screen shot? This happened a while ago....I retried several time over a period of weeks with repeated messages asking for more money...turned me off...Using my old computer for the extensive library.

If

This happened...as described & I do not have a screen shot (evidence?!) for you. Not finding your responses helpful...

Something happened but not as you suggested it did which is why I am asking for a screen shot and the exact message.

Apple does not charge to redownload your songs. If you repurchase them with a different AppleID, you will be charged.

I retried several time over a period of weeks with repeated messages asking for more money...turned me off...Using my old computer for the extensive library.

Then go back and use the old computer one time so you can get a screen shot and the exact error message.

You posted incomplete info. No way anyone can assist you.

Okay but not sure how you think others can help you with "Hey, some stuff happened. How do I fix it?"

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.

Method 1

  1. Backup the library with this User Tip.
  2. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
  3. Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
  4. Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

Method 2

Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.

Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.

I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.

Note if you iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.

If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.

Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Just so you know 'stuff happened' is not what I wrote BTW...

Another party kindly gave me some solid advice...in a polite fashion...& did not have to use.

Cris you come across in a rude manner...cranky like the messages I posted made no sense to you...

May I suggest you take a break.😐

Up-shot Iremembered I had an older back-up external drive I also use & succeeded in downloading all my music.

Bottom line I solved my problem...

Yes, I understand that. You were not clear about the exact message your received.

If you notice roaminggnome was not clear on what was happening either.

How much more info do you need?

The exact message you received and what exactly did you do when you received it.

Sorry if my response seemed rude. Not my intent.

Just trying to get you to state what the message was as I have never heard of the situation as you explained it.

Apology accepted Cris.

I reread the exchanges...the issue that grabbed you was the charges I was asked to pay... (as it did GRAB me😉) Trust me it did happen...more then once. If I remember it was not a 'transfer fee' they were asking for but additional fee per song 'due to increase in charges per song' something or other. I received these requests several times...& since I was not going to pay I halted attempts...& I sent a 'feedback query' regarding the repeated request for additional funds.

But the core issue was simply transferring my full library which the gentleman from the UK addressed.

And as luck would have I did succeed without any gliches on my own.

Thanks for your time.

Have a great weekend.

I wonder, perhaps, it there was an offer to upgrade your older 128k DRM laden purchases to 256k DRM free ones aka iTunes Plus. This is a chargeable upgrade, and the cost would depend on the number of songs involved. It has nothing to do with transferring the library from one computer to another. I would put the timing down as coincidence.
