My Focuswrite Saffire just died and I want to get away from firewire anyway. I use this to monitor-mix 5.1 audio from Final Cut. I am running 5 x M-Audo monitors from a powered subwoofer.
Is there an easier solution using the HDMI port form the Retina Macbook? Or maybe the optical TOSLINK from the Headphone port?
Trying to avoid an expensive interface here as I do not record - just monitor.
