Mar 2, 2013 10:38 AM in response to jneedshelpby Eric Root,Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.
General information.

This is driving me crazy!!
I tried both of your suggestions with no luck. My password worked to create a new user and to login but it won't work in "terminal".

Mar 2, 2013 12:39 PM in response to jneedshelpby VikingOSX,Caps lock and typos are incompatible with terminal based password entry. So is entering a root password, where an admin account password is expected.
Are you typing sudo command, or su command?

Mar 2, 2013 1:22 PM in response to VikingOSXby jneedshelp,I understand about CAPlocks and typos but not sure what you mean by sudo or su command.
when asked for password. I just type in my password then enter. Is there letters or symbols I should put before or after my password.
THANK YOU for any and all suggestions.

Mar 2, 2013 2:23 PM in response to jneedshelpby VikingOSX,Just your password, and nothing but your password.
The sudo(8) command allows you to run otherwise system privileged applications from within terminal, without having to create a root (su) password. For now, nevermind.
What are you running in the terminal that prompts for your password?

Mar 3, 2013 2:02 PM in response to jneedshelpby Linc Davis,If that's something that's supposed to help you crack commercial applications, such as games, so you can use them without paying, it's probably a trojan. You're lucky that the command you typed makes no sense. But you may be infected anyway, if you installed the thing.
