I'm trying to get the SIM out of my iPhone 5, but the tray won't open. I do not have the official Apple SIM removal tool, but I have a paper clip that's around the same size. I'm giving it some force, but nothing is happening and I don't want to break it. What should I do?

You are right. It had to do with the angle, not so much the pressure.
Try something thinner think a paperclip is to thich to eject it correctly
this has happened to me as well. I also have an iphone 5 and sometimes you need to really be persistent with the paper clip as sometimes it doesnt work immediatly. keep at it. I was scared i would screw it up also and frusturated but good luck
Agree with zack b77. Same thing happened to me and eventually it works. I guess I had to have the angle or the pressure just right.
If your having difficulty you can always order a sim tray tool or go to a local cell phone carrier and have them remove it for you! (Or an Apple store as well I imagine)
Not that it makes any difference, as a paperclip is just as effective, but here in the UK you can buy a hundred SIM removal tools for 99 pence. đ
