Unresponsive iPad

My iPad is not responsive and I am trying to reboot it. I hold the Sleep/Wake button down but the touchsceern is unresponsive and cannot slide to power off. Holding the button down for more than 15 seconds does not help - nothing happens.Unresponsive iPad

Do it this way.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
