Q: Why does my computer quit unexpectedly when I click on "Show the Project Library" in Final Cut Pro X ?

Hello,

When I click on "Show the Project Library" on Final Cut Pro X program, my computer unexpectedly quits.

I just purchased an iMac 27in screen, (16G Ram) and all the features suggested by the Apple representative to run Final Cut Pro X.

The program was working well for about a week. Afterward, I downloaded all my iMovie projects. I'm wondering if that has created this problem.

Any suggestions as to what the solution might be?    Thanks.

Jack

The first troubleshooting step would be to trash preferences files. Easiest way is to download Digital Rebellion's preference manager.

I would suspect the iMovie projects as they often contain material that does not translate properly to FCP.

Thanks for responding Russ. I've trashed preferences. Still having issues...

Is there another step you suggest?

Hello Tom, thanks for responding. I agree, I think that is the cause of the problem but not sure how to fix it.

Move the projects out of the Final Cut Projects folder. Event Manager X is very handy for this. See if the application is OK. Then move them back in one at a time with the application closed to see which ones may be causing a problem.

Sad to say, my FCP opens and then immedialtely closes now. So, I'm unable to do anything to it.   Perhaps I should just take it to the Apple Store.

Over the year I've used FCPX, it' s gone through "spells" where specific actions would crash it - much as you describe. Trashing preferences has nearly always fixed things. Several times, when it did not, I reinstalled the app.

However, I've never imported an  iMovie project so I can't give any first hand advice. It will be interesting to see whether FCPX opens if it doesn't see those projects. (per Tom Wolsky's advice.)

    Hi Russ,

Apple helped me get rid of my iMovie projects in the FCP folder. That solved the problem. I didn't quite know how to do that. (I'm still a beginner at this.)

One of the iMovies I imported into the project was messing things up.

Thanks again for  responding to me.
