Mar 2, 2013 1:11 PM in response to JackTHby Russ H,The first troubleshooting step would be to trash preferences files. Easiest way is to download Digital Rebellion's preference manager.

Mar 2, 2013 1:20 PM in response to JackTHby Tom Wolsky,I would suspect the iMovie projects as they often contain material that does not translate properly to FCP.

Mar 2, 2013 4:10 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby JackTH,Hello Tom, thanks for responding. I agree, I think that is the cause of the problem but not sure how to fix it.

Mar 2, 2013 4:34 PM in response to JackTHby Tom Wolsky,Move the projects out of the Final Cut Projects folder. Event Manager X is very handy for this. See if the application is OK. Then move them back in one at a time with the application closed to see which ones may be causing a problem.

Mar 2, 2013 4:49 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby JackTH,Sad to say, my FCP opens and then immedialtely closes now. So, I'm unable to do anything to it. Perhaps I should just take it to the Apple Store.

Mar 2, 2013 6:15 PM in response to JackTHby Russ H,Over the year I've used FCPX, it' s gone through "spells" where specific actions would crash it - much as you describe. Trashing preferences has nearly always fixed things. Several times, when it did not, I reinstalled the app.
However, I've never imported an iMovie project so I can't give any first hand advice. It will be interesting to see whether FCPX opens if it doesn't see those projects. (per Tom Wolsky's advice.)

Mar 3, 2013 1:08 PM in response to Russ Hby JackTH,Hi Russ,
Apple helped me get rid of my iMovie projects in the FCP folder. That solved the problem. I didn't quite know how to do that. (I'm still a beginner at this.)
One of the iMovies I imported into the project was messing things up.
Thanks again for responding to me.
