iTunes 11, unchecked songs still syncing?

Hi everyone,

I'm running iTunes 11 on my 2012 MBP.

I have an album in my iTunes library which contains 12 songs, and i only want 5 of those songs sycing to my iPhone.

So, I do the usual cmd+shift select the tracks I don't want to sync, and then right-click and "uncheck selection" and they grey out.

But then, when I sync that album to my iPhone & iPad, all 12 songs sync to my devices. Including the songs that I have unchecked.

Is it because when I go to the Music tab on my iPhone (in iTunes) I tick that album to be synced?
