Aug 27, 2013 2:14 PM in response to Tesseraxby Halliday,That article is well and good when everything works the way it sais it should. The rub is when things don't quite "go by the book", so to speak.
For instance, I have been trying for about a month to update the firmware on my AirPort Extreme Base Station from version 7.6.3 to 7.6.4 (the update the AirPort utility reports is available and recommended). Whether I use the AirPort Utility on the iPad (version 1.3.1 [131.1]), or the AirPort Utility on my Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64-bit laptop (version 5.6.1), the firware update is never successfully downloaded!
Unfortunately, the AirPort Utility on the iPad doesn't show any progress bar, so I have no idea how far along it gets (it simply complains that "An error occurred while downloading the firmware.") On the other hand, the AirPort Utility on Windows does provide a progress bar, so I can see that it has never gotten further than about a quarter of the way (often much less).
I had found the article you pointed to weeks ago, when I was trying to find a way to download the firmware file directly to a computer, so I could install from there. Unfortunately, this contingency seems to have escaped the notice of those writing that article.
So, is there any way for people like myself to actually get my AirPort Extreme updated?

Aug 27, 2013 2:36 PM in response to Hallidayby Bob Timmons,Did you hard wire the computer to a LAN port on the AirPort Extreme to do the update that way?
If not, temporarily turn off the wireless on the computer and connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme and try the update that way.
If that does not work, then you likely have an AirPort Exterme issue that will need to be addressed.

Aug 28, 2013 8:28 AM in response to Hallidayby CEB20816,I had that problem when I upgraded to 7.6.4 using my ipad. After successfully updating the first AX it then kept telling me that the update had been unsuccessful. After many attempts I noticed that the utility (forget if PC or ipad) showed the AX with the upgraded OS. Proceeded to do all 4, with the same "error" although all worked fine. This time I upgraded to 7.6.4 on my PC with no error messages
