Is each user required to back up,or will time machine back up the entire computer?
Time Machine backs up all users, automatically.

I backed up my computer to an external disc. When I go to the external dis to iphoto . I do not see my pictures. It opens iphoto on my computer
how do i view my pictures from the external drive?
Unfortunately, Time Machine will not allow you to browse the images in the iPhoto library backup.
Check the size of the iPhoto library in your backups. If it is about the same size as your working library, the images are being backed up.
