iPhoto is cheaper and it's compatible with Photo Stream. First of all, open iPhoto, go to iPhoto menu > About iPhoto, and tell me what iPhoto version you are using.

If it's iPhoto 9, you are already using iPhoto '11, so just open  > Software Update to install the most recent version. Then, open System Preferences > iCloud, and tick Photo Stream. Photo Stream will show up in the iPhoto sidebar.

If it's iPhoto 8 or an older version, you will have to purchase iPhoto from the App Store, but first you have to delete the actual iPhoto you have. Also, make a backup of the iPhoto library. The library will be upgraded the first time you open iPhoto, so if this process fails, you will lose all the photos
