Safari 5.1.7 won't open msn.com homepage

This is a recurrent problem. URL says msn.com, but page won't load. Refreshing page does not help. Resetting Safari does not fix. Restarting computer usually fixes it, but not always. Other pages like Yahoo, Facebook, etc load w/o problem. Mac OS 10.6.8 Any ideas?

I have the same problem. MSN.com content will not load. in fact if I put in msn.com/sports that page will load but disappear in about 1 second. I tried turning off computer and re-starting, I deleted history & cookies...no help. I went to safari/preference details and deleted msn.com from list. still no resolution. this is crazy, but nothing works and that was my homepage.

Extensions are controlled thtough Safari Preferences:

They do not have to be turned on or even installed for the browser to work. If the above pref on your computer is turned on, see if things improve if you turn it off and test.

The hacks are something that changes the user interface or adds something to Safari that Apple didn't put there. Some work fine, but others have historically caused trouble. These can show up as plug-ins. If while in Safari you do "Help > Installed Plug-ins," you'll see what plug-ins are installed If you copy/paste just the bold title line (not the gray-shaded tables):

into a reply here, we cans see if any plug-in suggests a problem. Sometimes you can pick these up from a website without knowing it.

I am suddenly having the same issue. If I go into the preferences, select the Privacy tab and click on the Details button for the Cookies and other Website Data, I can search for and delete the msn.com cookie which allows me to then open msn.com. Problem is, after I close Safari and reopen, I am back to the same problem, the page does not load. Just a blank page. I have also noticed as others have mentioned, that when the page won't load, there is an icon of a yellow b to the left of www.msn.com and when I clear the cookie and successfully reload the page, there is a multicolored butterfly next to www.msn.com.

This appears to be the only website I am having issues with. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I have also tried flushing the DNS cache as well as using alternate DNS addresses (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 and 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). Nothing at the moment seems to work other than deleting the cookie created by msn.com but this only works until then next time I reopen Safari.

Yes, same here as far as the icon on the far right of the address bar. It was working fone a few hours ago, and I thought maybe it had fixed itself, or turning the extensions on and off helped. But then I shut down the computer for a few hours and when I restarted, same problem.

If the icon on the right is the B for Bing, it won't load. If it's the multicolored butterfly, it loads.

Thank you Stedman, and thank you again, Mr Jones. Unfortunately that link did not have an answer, that link ws just about clearing cookies.

Today msn.com is working fine. Yesterday and last night it would mostly not load. It seems to be related to the icon, as I said, if the address is prefixed by the "b" for bing, it won't load. If it is the multicolored butterfly, it loads just fine.

I did find a similar thread on a microsoft help site. Their response? you're gonna love this-"Microsoft is aware of the problem and is working on it" That was from 2011.

I have never regretted switching back to Mac, LOL!
