Problems Installing Adobe CS2 software

Hi,
I purchased my iMac aswell as Adobe CS2 software back in September. I started installing the CS2 software (4 discs) and by the last disc, installation froze and the drive sounded like it was in a continuous search on the disc. So I had to reboot and eject the disc. This continued for 2 more tries. I contacted Adobe and they said it was a disc problem, so I exchanged my CS2 for another CS2 disc set. I completely erased the previous CS2 applications, reinstalled OSX and tried again. This time it was the 2nd of 4 discs that just got skipped over - nothing even installed from that disc - the computer just spat it out and said: "disc 2 complete, please insert disc 3..."
Anyone think I have drive or hardware issues???

Hi Bushfire.

I had a very similar problem when I installed CS 1 under OS X 10.3 on an iBook. In that case it turned out that the version of Stuffit Expander supplied with the OS was too old. (The stuffit engine is, I believe used to unpack some or all of the goodies from the installer). After upgrading Stuffit Expander to - I think to version 7 at the time - the install went perfectly.

OS X 10.4 doesn't have any version of stuffit expander included with it at all. Have a look on versiontracker.com to download if you haven't allready got it. Could be worth a try.

I have subsequently installed CS 2 on my iMac G5, and everything went OK -so it CAN work.

Good luck - and let me know if it works.

Hmmm, sounds quite plausible. I'll give it a shot - unfortunately I'll have to wait until July to connect to internet using that iMac (My home computer) - I'm moving and will hook up net when I'm settled.

Did you completely erase CS2 from your HD after stuffit update and reinstall full installation, or simply run the installation process again without erasing?

Thanks for your help - I hope it works.

Did the trick for me. I had tried installing the suite on a new Intel Mini and the installer locked up the entire computer when it got to Illustrator on disc 2. Photoshop and all the extras were okay, just not Ill. and InDesign.

I installed StuffIt, tried it again (without uninstalling anything), and it finished the suite with no problems.

Just thought I'd let you know!

This is really an oversight on Adobe's part, I think. I'm looking at the system requirements info right now and it says nothing about requiring Stuffit Expander.

Seems a bit bit weird that the same problem occurred with both CS 1 and CS 2, I thought they would have sorted out it between the two versions.

I think I'll pop over to the Adobe forums and see if it's documented anywhere.
