Books purchased in the iBookstore can only be read on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iBooks app installed, but not on Macs and PCs.
Unfortunately, we don't know if Apple will launch iBooks for Mac and PC, so the only thing you can do is to send feedback to Apple telling them the idea > http://www.apple.com/feedback

Correct. There is no iBook app for the Mac.
But there is a Kindle app for the Mac. If you want to read books on your Mac, Kindle is the way to go.
