Q: RAM upgrade for iMac 8.1, 3.06 GHz

Hello,

I would like to know whether I can upgrade my iMac 8.1 (24") 3.06 GHz memory from DDR2 800 MHz to DDR3 1026 MHz, 1333 MHz or faster ?

You have an Early 2008 iMac. You can only install DDR2 800 MHz RAM on that computer, because it's the only memory type that your Mac supports. If you install another type of memory, your Mac won't start up.

Officially, your iMac supports 4 GB of memory (2x2 GB) > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423?viewlocale=en_US#2 However, you can install 6 GB without any problem. You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial.

Thank you very much for your help.
It should still do for home. I guess that increasing RAM from 4 GB to 6 GB will allow Lightroom and Photoshop to rune faster.
There is of course no comparison with the 27" 10.8 I have at work. What about the RAM for that one ? Is it also limited to 1067 MHz or is it possible to use the new faster DDR3 chips ?
