how can i update my ipod on a new laptop without losing everthing?

I want to update my ipod touch 4th gen. to ios6 but i don't want to lose all my music as itunes indicates that it is only possible to preform a update after clearing the hard drive. Does anyone have an idea how i'd be able to update my ipod and keep my music?

btw English isn't my native language so i apologize for any possible grammatical errors

If you still have access to your Old computer that you used to Sync to...

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

Full Details Here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751

An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

If not... See these 2 Links...
