sync contacts between iphone and macbook

I have a Macbook pro with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and after the new changes to the itune, I'm not able to merge changes to the contacts between my iphone and Macbook pro.

I don't have a Lion and not sure if I want to upgrade. Is there anyway to fix this issue?
