I fulfilled the bolded text above. So, why can't I photostream?

Open iPhoto, go to iPhoto > About iPhoto. What version? Are you logged into iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud, and is Photo Stream on there?

I have iPhoto 09. When I go to System Preferences Photo Stream is grayed out and it says "Learn more" I go to learn more and get the message I posted above.
My computer is an older one. When I installed the last version of the OS I guess it didn't come with the newer iPhoto?

So, why can't I photostream?
Because as your post explains and as the links I sent explain - you must have iPhoto '11 to use Photo Stream
