Top menu bar keeps disappearing...

I've been looking around on the forums here to find a solution but it seems that everyone is dealing with full screen problems. In my case... I just purchased this laptop today and the top menu bar when I am on my desktop keeps disappearing and I have to put my mouse all the way at the top and click in order for it to appear again. This happens only when I close out of the System Prefrences window. It's strange...

Was it purchased New from Apple or used for someone?

If new your problem is strange and not normal. I'd take it back as it appears it waas used by someone else before it was sold to you.

If you bought it used then the previous owner made some changes and or added an Add-On program to do that. If that is the case you should just wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS so you have a Like New System.

Interesting... Well, here is the case. I purchased it from Best Buy and I had a catastrophic hard drive failfure within the 30 days of origional purchase and they told me that they would replace it with a brand new laptop. So I took it back today and got this "brand new one". If it was refurbished would it have said it anywhere on the box?

Well you never know what you are getting from BB. IICR when I bought my MBP from BB the box was sealed with a clear plastic sticker over the flap that opens. Did this supposedly new unit they gave you have such a clear seal on it that you had to cut open with a knife?

If you don't feel like taking it back then just use the Recovery HD, Command+r at startup, and erase the Macintosh HD partition using disk utility and then Reinstall Mac OS X. At least that way you know if will have a fresh install of the OS. If you still have problems then take it back.

I am confident this is a new unit. The packaging was exactly the same as the one I origionally purchased BUT what has been bugging me is that there were fingerprints on the screen when I took it out of the box. I'm just really sad that my first ever experiance with a Mac turned out crappy.

I have 14 days to return or exchange it. I'll try it out and see what happens. Thank you for your help!

If there were Finger Prints on the screen it certainly is not new. Mine was new and it was Pristine packed in a plastic wrap so tight that it would not go back on after take that wrap off. No Finger Prints anywere on it and certainly not on the screen.

Maybe you should take it back and ask for a completely new unit. Don't fool with it any more and just pack it back up as best you can.
