No import options visible on the import tab

Once in a while, after a few good working imports, when I select again import there are no options shown on the import tab at all. I only see the Import setting list box at the top and the cancel/import checked at the bottom, but all options are invisible, and I also cant slecte them from the dropbox/list box at the top since they dont even show there.

I also have to now click twice to get to the import screen. Which also already indicates something is wrong.

See the right part of the screen in below capture. The import options are gone, and its not because I didnt select them .. .they just dont show....

So far the only option I found is to revboot the MBP and start Aperture again to see all import options.

Does anyone have any clue why the options disappear or know how to fix it?

Thanks fo rsuggestions!

Usually in situations like this the cause is a corrupt preference file and the solution is to move the existing preference file to the trash and let Aperture create a new one.

In your case where rebooting seems to clear up the problem for a time it is less likely to be the cause but it is still possible. I would move the preference file out and see if the problem clears or changes.

To move out the preference file see Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics. About 2/3's of the way down the page are the instructions you need.

Post back if that doesn't clear the problem.

Hi Frank,

THanks for the quick response and suggestion. I`ll certainly try it next time it happens and post the result.

This time I tried DB repair and it also fixed the issue. I just tried out of curiosity to see if it also fixed the issue, but it takes longer to get it resolved because of the size of the library, reboot would have been faster.

So thanks again, will post back.

HI Frank,

I had this experience again three times and it was each time resolved by removing the preferences file. I have no clue why or what is happening, its a bit annoying to be honest but at least this is a faster work around.

So far I dont seem to lose anything by removing the preferences file except the setting of the icon bar at the top. I hope I dont lose other settings I didnt notice yet.

THanks again for the help. Much appreciated!

The Preferences file stores the arrangement/Layout of the graphical user interface you last used, all settings done in "Aperture > Preferences", the path to the Aperture Library you last opened. Did I forget something, Frank?

But it does not store your custom adjustment presets, keybindings, etc.

Because the appearance/layout of the Application window is stored in the Preferences, a corrupted preferences file may account for missing or unresponsive GUI items.

But the "Import" panel is also dependent on the Aperture library, since it has to determine, what already has been imported. If you want to test, whether you need to fix the library or the Aperture preferences, test with a different Aperture library. If you do not have one already, create one with "file > Switch To Library > Other/new. If your current library is the culprit, the Import panel will work well with a new library, but if the preferences are broken, you will see the same with a different Aperture Library.
