Need a restore destination disk

When I started my Mac today, I had a flashing folder with a question mark on it, I restarted with Internet recovery and eventually it led to the OSX utility window. I restored from machine backup and I have the last download I want, but it says I need a restore destination or I don't know what to do with that part

iPod touch, iOS 5, 4th Gen Ipod touch 32gb

Okay so, i have a back up file on my external hard drive. I slected it as the backup file. I need a destination in which to place the backup, which is the computers internal harddrive disk. Which it can't seem to locate. I want to locate it now
