Q: How do I connect a Netgear WNDR3400 to my Airport extreme to create a roaming network?

I am trying to improve the wireless range to reach a part of the house with no wifi signal.  I have an Airport Extreme as the base station and ethernet hard wired throughout the house.  I'd like to connect my old Netgear WNDR3400 to the network via the ethernet (a roaming network?).  I've tried to go into the netgear's LAN settings to turn off the DHCP and change the IP address to match the Airport, but the netgear won't seem to let me change the IP address... it keeps reverting to its own default numbers.  I'm also confused by the Airport's IP address... when I first open the Airport Utility it tells me the address is one string (starting with 10), but when I use the Utility's internet setup it says the IP address is another number (starting with 69) while the "router address" is yet another number.  I've tried all 3 of them in the netgear LAN settings, but the netgear won't accept any of them.  Help!

The key for a successful roaming network setup is that your Netgear router must be reconfigured as a bridge. That would mean both its NAT & DHCP services need to be disabled. Although I was able to download a copy of its user manual, I was unable to determine how you would do either manually.

Your AirPort's default LAN-side IP router address is: 10.0.1.1. It will provide IP addresses in this range including the Netgear that you have connected back to it by Ethernet.
