iCloud won't backup

All i have set to backup to the cloud is find my iPhone. It says find my iphone is only .3 KB but the backup size is 3.9 GB. I only have 2.9 GB available on the cloud, i tried turning it off and back on and deleting my previous backup but it just doesnt add up.

Hi bethking,

On your phone go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage. There you will be able to see many of the items that are using storage on iCloud. It will show a summary of how much storage your iPhone is using, and if you have any other devices backing up to iCloud it will list them as well. On this page you will also see shared files that are used by all devices.

You can click on any one of these shared files (Pages, Mail, etc.) to see exactly what is out there for that item.

You can also click on each device to get the detail of what that particular device is storing on iCloud (Camera Roll and Apps on that Device).

Check these items out, and you may find out what is taking up all the space. You always have the option to turn any of those off.

Cheers,

It shows 2.9 GB being used by two other phones that are backed up and since I deleted my backup it is using 0 KB, so there are still 2.1 GB available. I have everything turned off on this page except Find My Iphone, which says it only takes up 0.3 KB. It says the next backup for my phone alone is 3.9 GB and it doesnt fit, but i dont see how that is possible when the only thing set to back up is find my iphone.

That's not what I'm asking. When you are in Manage Storage, and you tap on your iPhone, it should then show a screen with your iPhone listed at the top, then the Latest Backup Time and Size.

Below that it should show your Next Backup Size. Below that, it should list ONLY the apps/items that you are actually backing up (not all of your apps, nor any that have the switch set to OFF). "Find My iPhone" is not listed here....."Find My iPhone" is on the first screen you see when you click on Settings>iCloud.

OK, so all of your apps listed are showing as "Off", right (even the ones that we can't see on your screenshot).

So, there are some things that can be done.

First, reset your phone to see if that clears up anything (press the Home and Power buttons at the same time and hold them down until the Silver Apple appears - you won't lose any data).

Next, delete the iCloud account from the phone and then set it up again. See if that clears things up.

Also, if you have a lot of Text messages with videos attached to them, delete as many as possible (these take up a lot of iCloud storage space).

Finally, if all else fails, hook up the phone to the computer you sync with to see if your "Other" is extremely large (if you have deleted as many text messages as possible, then we would need to link to another post on the "Other" problem so you could do some troubleshooting for that).

Let me know how you fare!

Cheers,
