No incoming email: OSX 10.8.2

I have an old email account set up which will be discontinued in a few days. I am trying to get my iCloud.me.com account functioning. I thought it was working when I set it up a few months ago but I am getting no email even when I fwd mail to myself from a gmail account that is independent of my iCloud account.

When I go to Preferences/Accounts I find that my email address, full name and incoming mail server boxes are grayed out. I do not get any email on my iCloud account. Connection Doctor indicates that the connection is being made.
