How to fix Tables ?

Hello,

1. how can I lock / fix tables at their borders that they stay fixed in an A4 letter size.

It's quite annoying to always refix from letft to right all the table cells... that they not jump over to the next page.

2. How can I lock the size of a single cell or a ouple one with the same size? When I Move one of them, that they all move, with the same fixed size?

thanks for your help.

Hi J,

Constrain Proportions fixes the aspect ration (width/height) of a graphic object. It is greyed because it cannot be applied to a table.

Numbers defines 'pages' only when in Print view or when actually printing. Outside this context, the table (and other objects on the sheet) exist on a 'limitless' canvas that is not divided into sections (pages). You can manually set the width of each column, and the height of each row, of a table to a fixed value. If you do not set the height manually, the height of each row is determined by the space required to contain the text in the 'fullest' cell on that row (if text is set to wrap when it exceeds the width of the column), or by the largest type size size setting in that row (if the text is set to not wrap).

Numbers' sister application, Pages, automatically limits the width of inserted tables to the width of the space between the margins of a single page. Row heights are determined much as they are in Numbers.

Hi Elsta,

1.

Size and place the table as you want it, then select the table and go Arrange > Lock.

Note that Lock also prevents the user from entering data or editing formulas on the table.

Lock does not, however, prevent existing formulas from recalculating, so if this is a table used primarily for printing, you might consider putting the data entry functions into a separate (unlocked) table, and using formulas to transfer that data to this one, allowing this one to remain locked at all times.

2.

Individual cells, rows or columns cannot be locked in Numbers. You can manually set the height of the row and/or the width of the column of one or more selected cells using the Table Inspector. Once set, these sizes will remain fixed, despite changes in the size of their content, until you reset them. If the row is moved (by dragging the Row reference tab to a new location), the row size setting will be maintained. If an individual cell is moved, it's the content, not the cell that is being relocated, and the row height/column width settings will not follow.

Barry
