Add drop shadow curled page like default photo boxes in books.

When I pick a theme in Books in Aperture, I see the photo boxes have rotation and a shawdowed, buttom edge curled effect to the photo plaeholder boxes. I figured out how to add photo boxes and even size and rotate them, but cannot see how to add the shawdow/curled effects to the placeholder. Nor can I 'edit' existing placeholders to change there size or rotation. Seems it should be easy... but not. Also, how to add a custom page background color other than the very limited selection allowed/offered?

Hi,

I don't know about the custom background, but to get the slightly curled photo borders, I "duplicate" a blank one instead off "adding" one. Once you duplicate a blank placeholder, you can move it around, etc. I suppose for that matter, you can duplicate one that has a photo in it, and then delete or change the photo.

Hi MarkPek, I didn't know you could do this. It's nice to be able to do this. Now what else would be nice, if one could adjust the size and rotation of these theme supplied containers. That too, I have not been able to figure out how to do.

I can usually adjust the size and rotation. I just use a "finger-spread" (the opposite of a "pinch") on the trackpad to enlarge them, and kind of spin my two fingers on the track pad to rotate them. Probably some sort of click-and-drag with a mouse would do the same thing.

which theme are you using? Each theme is behaving differently and some are very restrictive. For example, the "Formal" theme does not allow to rotate the photo boxes or to change the aspect ration.

The "angle" slider in the layout options and part of the size options will be dimmed for hese themes.

Thanks, I see the different Themes allow different adjustments of the photo placeholders.

I also found I could use another tip by another poster to my question in the forums, in that I could duplicate an existing photo placeholder, and then adjust it's size somewhat by right-clicking and selecting "Photo Box Aspect Ratio", each click on this menu item, reduces the photos size. So that by starting with the largest existing placeholder in the theme, I could approximate the size of the photo placeholder duplicate I wanted on the page. A kludge of a work-around, but it works. Now to find a way around greyed-out rotation controls...
