Mac hanging and crashing every other week

Lately my Mac Pro (3,1) has been crashing and beach balling every other week. Sometimes it wakes from sleep and then crashes.

When you say it is crashing, is it a kernel panic: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742


If so, open Console (Utilities folder or search with spotlight).

If the Log List is not showing on the sidebar, select Show Log List from the View Menu.

Click the triangle next to System Diagnostic Reports and select the most recent kernel panic log. Copy and paste the contents into a reply.

After waking from sleep the system just freezes from time to time. In general use though sometimes the system starts slowing down. Lots of sandboxd errors in the console start appearing and then finder beach balls after which the whole system becomes unresponsive. No KP screen or gray error screen appears. It just freezes.


Wondering if this is a hardware issue, in which case how to tell, or a Mountain Lion issue with sandboxd or something else?

That sounds more like a hard drive failing or interference from third-party software. Is everything backed up?

Boot to the Recovery HD and run Disk Utility to repair disk, then reinstall the OS.


One of the posters here, etresoft, has created a small program that lists all the installed software: http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck


Run that and post results back here.

I figured it might be a corrupt OS but after doing a clean install and then Migration things improved for a week but problems recurred recently.

Try uninstalling these:

I'm not sure what this is, but especially why it is loading three times:

hades.boxpeg.net

jupiter.boxpeg.net


You can try disabling one-at-a-time. I'd start with istatlocal and net.culater
