Unable to complete backup? An error occurred while creating the backup folder.

Hooked up an ext. HD that was being used as Time Machine for an older MacBookPro.

New MacBookPro gives me this message when trying to run the frist backup.

"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder."

How do I fix this?
