Maximum RAM for iMac G$ 20"

Hi Everyone:

The tech specs state a maximum of 1 GB of RAM for this iMac. My unit came with 256 in the Apple slot and I wanted to max out the RAM by buying a second module for the user slot. I always assumed the RAM max was the the total of the RAM in slot 1 & 2 but I saw a 1 GB module offered for sale for this model (see link below)??? If installed in the user slot, this would make the total RAM 1.25 GB which exceeds the spec max. My question is - does the 1 GB max max in the tech spec relate to total system RAM or just the user slot? I'm pretty sure it's total but the 1 GB stick caused me to question this. I obviously don't want to buy a 1 GB stick if the system will only use 3/4 of it.

Can I assume that the $ is supposed to be a 4 for a G4 iMac? This is the forum for the Intel Core Duo Macs, so in the future you might want to post in the G4 forums so your questions get the attention that it deserves.

Since you have 256MB RAM that came with yours, I assume that you did not do any upgrades since the purchase was made. Apple published the max RAM based on what was available at the time it was made. There are many people that have put 2, 1GB sticks in their iMacs. It requires a SODIMM for the factory slot and a standard DIMM for the user slot.

TransIntl.com is a place that sells the 1GB sticks that will work for your iMac.
