No, your hardware is irrelevant for such problems. In fact, it would probably be better to post in the software forum for your OS instead, and provide details about what software exactly you are talking about and what is happening that is not right.

If you need to be totally compatible with Windows Office, it is always better to use Mac Office, or at least a clone like OpenOffice.

If you are using Pages, there is a special forum for its problems:

And if you are already using MS Word for Mac, you can also search/ask in the MS forums:

Yes i am doing papers that requires both English and Chinese fonts. I use mac(office for mac) at home while windows at work. I use printer at work so i need have a compatible font. While doing paper (b/w mac & windows) some characters are missing or garbled, some lost, even images. Iam thinking it could be a font conflict(conflict b/w pages - word, b/w office for mac word - windows), numbers-excel, keynote-ppt. And so looking for a common font for both, less problem during working on papers, with nothing missing out like images or tables, and printing them out easely. Hope you can help for i am afraid the more i work on my papers the more items lost along the way. Thanks!

You say you are using Mac Office, but then you start talking about Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Where exactly is the problem happening? Between the iWork apps and Mac Office? Between iWork apps and Windows Office? Between Mac Office and Windows Office? It is really important to be clear about that.

Are the missing characters both Chinese and English? If Chinese, what font are you using? Mac Office should come with fonts totally compatible with Windows Office.

I was told that compatibility between mac office and windows office will present no problem. I started using mac office, as I will be printing and sharing with people using windows. When I open the same file for printing, i see missing images, changes in some characters, sometimes event a question mark is gone and turn into square, or arranged differently. Tried using Arial, TImes New Roman, other common fonts, same with the Chinese fonts. Just couldnot get the same exact file. In the end I had to produce a document from older notebook using windows system.

You know, I've never had a problem with transfers between Word on a Mac and Word for Windows - but when I know that I'm preparing a document that must be opened on Windows (and I'm using Windows 7 and Office 2013 now with MS Office for Mac 2011 on the Mac side) I just always use the MS provided fonts and have never had problems with images, fonts, anything.

Did you ask you're question in the MS Word forum? I'm sure that some there work with multi-lingual documents and would be able to help. My suspicion is that it's simply a problem with incompatible typefaces (which is just one reason that I use PDF files so often).

Try the Word forum - I'm certain that someone there will have the answers that you seek.

Good luck,

Clinton

When you ask in the dedicated MS Word forum, make sure you tell them what versions of Word you are using both for Mac and Windows.

Regarding Chinese, this page provides info on the MS Chinese fonts. Using them should minimize any issues caused by differences between Mac and Windows for that script.

Thanks Tom, as I now know where to direct my problem. I will check into the MS word forum and see how to solve this. Thanks for the link as well.

PS: Sometimes when Im on a paper or even browsing the web, like now the screen just blacks out. Then I have to tap a key on the board to wake it up. Is this called 'crash'? Does anyone know why it does what it does?
