Hi,

iChat is the app on Lion and earlier OS version on Macs and cannot be put in Airplane Mode which is something on iPS devices such as iPhones and iPads.

If you mean Messages we will need to know if it is the Mac Version or the iOS version.

My apologies it's iMessage wasn't paying attention. The iOS version is as stated above in the first post. And I should clarify that Airplane mode was on for several weeks and upon turning it OFF is when the issue started the IOS was also recently updated from a previous version But it appears that iMessage was not working properly before that update so it is irrelevant.

HI,

Pendantic moment.

Both apps are called Messages on Mac and on iOS devices.

iMessages is just one thing the Mac version can do (it can do everything iChat can do) and the iOS device just uses iMessages when talking to compatible/registered IDs or iPhone Numbers (It will send SMS if not).

Anyway.

An iPhone and the iMessage function at least.

Actually if the App was not working properly before an Update the chances are it will be the same afterwards.

Try this.

On the iPhone > Settings > Messages > Send and Receive remove the Apple ID you are using.

Is the iPhone Number itself ticked ?

If not then place back in Airplane mode for a couple of minutes. (Break with server)

Now start up the iPhone again and try and select the iPhone Number if it still is not ticked in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive.

If the tick is added or gets added then re-add the Apple ID you are using.

At this point any other iOS device using the same Apple ID and/Or the Mac version of the app should have a pop up message about the iPhone using the Apple ID and Phone Number.

The emails are ticked the phone number is greyed out and I am unable to tick it. I've tried cycling the phone into airplane mode and then turning it back on and trying again and it continues to tell me that it is experiencing an error during activation. I'm starting to wonder if it's an issue that only the service provider can correct on its end.

Hi,

On the Mac version it is possible wo get an alert type message that says Contact Support on a button and leads you to a set of telephone numbers I understand.

Basically it a link to Apple Support techs who specialise in issues with Apple IDs

You can use the iTunes Support links to access an email contact with them as well.

I did have one iPhone that became greyed out and unticked for the phone Number even when I had removed the Apple ID and waited.

After several tries of Airplane Mode and possibly a restart of the Messages function itself I go the app to show it as ticked on the iPhone.

When I had this I re-added the Apple ID and the message about the iPhone using both popped up on the Mac version on restarting the Mac version.
