Is there a version for earlier versions of iOS?

I have a iPod 2g and there is nothing wrong with it therefore no need to upgrade - Is the remote app avaialble for earlier iOS's?

iPod touch, iOS 4.2

Firmware for all previous versions are available. But Apple does not permit downgrade of iOS. Either you stay where you are or update to the newest being offered.
