Ipod will not reset and all I get is flashing apple logo.

My Ipod displays only the flashing Apple logo and I hear clicking like the drive is trying to kick in. It will not reset. I have drained the battery and tried connecting to Itunes. It will not connect to computer even with a charged battery. I tried to contact customer support and I get the message that items older than 5 years are not serviced. I only bought this device less than a year ago from a retailer. Any suggestions?
