getting photos to fit into a locket

hello, i'm using ilife 11 with iphoto and i just bought my girlfriend a locket for valentines day but i don't know how to get my photos that small. the dimensions of the locket are 1" x 1.5'. can some body please help because i am a newbie when it comes to working with photos. i use my mac for music recording about 99% of the time. thank you for your time
