How the moo sound turned into a ...

... busted left fan. That funny cow sound I had on my left side was apparently the fan going on-off-on-off...

After the latest SMC firmware update the left fan started running continuously, at a slow pace, but making a rattling sound.

Today while encoding a video the fan started to run faster and the noise "like a baseball card on the spokes of a bicycle" got so LOUD that it was almost funny (not).

I called Apple and just let them hear through the phone. The girl called a product specialist and so on... they are sending a box by DHL.

I just hope they don't scratch it all up while they repair it. Should I put a note asking the tech. to be kind to my MBP? 🙂

Just wanted to share.

2.0 MBP / 1GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The exact same thing happened to me. I plan on taking my into an apple store tomorrow.

Any tip regarding security before I ship my computer?

I did a backup to an external HDD. Should I wipe everything out?? I plan to at least erase the contents of "Keychain".

Anything else I should consider?

Same thing happened to me, too. I brought mine back to the Apple store yesterday, and now it's going on a "7-10 business day" vacation. The guy at the store said I was the second one he'd seen with that specific problem. Wish us both luck...

You most likely meant that tongue in cheek, but hey, the guy/girl fixing your multi-thousand dollar machine is only human ... buy them lunch(10 bucks in a card). I am sure they'd appreciate it, and they might just take better care of your new toy.
