Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble with backing up my files. When Time Machine is ran, I get an error message that reads, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." When I open Time Machine, I can see folders nested in one another, but the is nothing in these folders. I am sure it is something simple, but I cannot find a solution to the problem when I search for it on the menus Apple has online. Please, help?
