On my iMac I have been able to move the icons around on the dock or
remove them from the dock. On my newly acquired MacBook Air, I have not
yet figured out how to do this. Is it possible? It's a minor point but would be more
convenient for me to be able to do this.
Thanks for trying to help but I knew this already. As I stated, I have been doing this for years on my iMac but this does not seem to be working on my MacBook Air. I will keep trying.
Mountain Lion made one change to the behavior of icons on the Dock - other than that nothing has changed. Because it is easy to accidentally delete an icon from the dock you must drag an icon about 4 centimeters away. You'll know you are far enough because a poof of smoke appears below the cursor when it is okay to release the mouse button.
