Mar 5, 2013 6:14 PM in response to TandyManby Linc Davis,If you restore everything the way it is now, almost certainly not.
If you want to make your computing life simple, wipe your boot volume, reinstall OS X, restore only your user data and settings from a backup, and don't restore any of your third-party software unless it comes from the App Store. Use only software that's built in or comes from the App Store. For example, if you need a word processor, use either TextEdit or Pages, not Microsoft Word. If you need a spreadsheet, use Numbers, not Excel. If you want to play games, play the games that are in the App Store. If you need to run Windows applications, use Boot Camp, not Parallels or VMware.
That solution wouldn't work for everyone, but If it works for you, and perhaps if you add more memory, your problem will be solved.

May 3, 2015 11:15 AM in response to Linc Davisby pdb206,Interesting. leaks suggests Chrome is leaking more than Safari yet swap growth and spasms of memorystatus_thread only show up when Safari is running. I left a lot more detail here:
safari and spinning beach ball
I reinstalled Yosemite but it reinstalled/update Safari to the same version. I was hoping to test with and without updates to see if that was part of the problem. I don't see this on an iMac running Yosemite.
