"Audio format is not supported" by my Nano?

I have a 6th generation Nano, that has been synching and playing with no issues. Today, I plug it in and all the sudden I get the following message "Audio format is not supported" by the name of my Nano? Several of the songs were just purchased from iTunes a few weeks ago.
