How do I reinstall iDVD now that apple doesn't give us a disc?

So some how iDVD is missing from my MacBook Pro which is purchased in Oct 2012. Back in the day I would have just put the old install disc in, re-installed iDVD and case closed.

How to I get iDVD back on my Mac?

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Apple discontinued distribution of iDVD with new Macs well before October 2012. How did you obtain it to begin with?

In that case just purchase a retail copy of iLife and install the iDVD app. Once installed, update it to the latest version 7.1.2:

Apple no longer sells iLife but it is readily available from sources such as Amazon. I have personally confirmed that iLife 11 and iLife 09 both contain the same version of iDVD, and have heard that iLife 08 does as well. The price is still reasonable. There is no DVD authoring product worthy of comparison to iDVD.

If you have the iDVD app on another Mac you can simply copy the app from the old Mac. As long as it is not a very old PowerPC version it will work.

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
