arri alexa mov playback problem in fcp7

I am using fcp 7 and i am using alexa footages 2048x1152 res and its struggles in playback. but playing the old alexa mov 1080p are good. How to prevent this problem? and my system config are 10.7.5 2.66 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon with 16Gb 1066 Mhz DDR3 ECC & Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB

Is there any other software to down convert to proxies with the same timecode?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

What codec is the 2048x1152 (which is 2K, BTW)? Is that ArriRaw? Or ProRes? And playing off of what drive connected how?

The Codec is Apple Pro Res 4444 and it is connected to seagate firewire 800 external hard disk. some times usb 3.0 adapter connected.

Get a faster drive array and connect it via eSATA or Thunderbolt.
